Belfast's Choir take to the Stage

This week the Belfast School choir performed alongside other schools at the Kaiapoi Musical Festival. They sand two of their own songs and sung a number of songs as a massed choir.

They did a spectacular job and conducted themselves in a brilliant manner. Well done to all those who performed!

Matariki Celebrations

This week we celebrated Matariki, the Maori New Year.

We learnt all about the 7 stars of Matariki, what the stars mean and what different people do for their own Matariki celebrations.

The 7 stars of Matariki are:

- Waiti
- Waita
- Tupuanuku
- Tupuarangi
- Waipunarangi
- Urarangi
- Matariki

Matariki means "Little Eyes". When the stars are bright and far apart, it means the year is going to be good. If you see Matariki, make sure to check what the year ahead brings us!

Here are some photos/videos of Matariki around Belfast School:

Samoan Language Week 2016

Last week we celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoan Language Week.

We had lots of amazing activities that we got to take part in and we learnt some great new words/phrases to use.

Here are some words we learnt this week:

Manuia - well done/good
Fa'afetai - thank you
Fa'amolemole - please
Talofa - hello

Some classes also learnt their colours and numbers such as lanu moana (blue) and samasama (yellow).

Here is a video of the whole school singing Savalivali.

Here are some photos from the activities such as making ula/aso, learning to Siva Samoa (dance), Samoan language week quiz and making Sapa Sui.
